So basically, they are putting a 75 kWh battery in a car, cutting it’s range USING SOFTWARE, then selling the range back as an upgrade if someone wants it. So basically, you’re purchasing more of something that you already have, which means that they’re essentially licensing you range out of the battery.
I can’t decide whether this is brilliant or completely heinous.

Well, I guess I get it. It doesn't cost Tesla anything to do that, it's a car they get to sell when they might not sell it otherwise because of price, and down the line maybe they get the upgrade and get the money back.

I don’t know about cars but BMW has already been doing this on motorcycles with the S1000RR. I can’t rember specifically what all they unlocked for you but it was the same concept.

I don’t think it is horrible and it isn’t that far from what some automakers have done before. What is annoying is that even with that the car I would buy spec’d out at $88k. The most expensive car I've bought was $27k in 2003. There is a bit of gap there.

That’s a lease price, not financing.
Edit: They do quote a 7 year loan on the website, though (for an even higher price). And, indeed, fuckkkkk that. How is that only at 1.74%?

This is so far from an Apple-unique philosophy, it’s comical.

If you’re gonna configure this, there’s no way you’re not touching $70 grand with options and tax and all that shit.
Why not just buy a used Tesla with better range for the same price? Easy Peasy.

Makes sense. Plenty of cars share the same engine, but the more expensive models have more power.
